Rest for Your Souls

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:28-29
All week we have been walking the ancient path. We stood at the crossroads with Jeremiah. We learned stillness from the psalmist, daily bread from the Lord's own prayer, quiet waters from the Shepherd's psalm. And today the path arrives at its destination — and the destination turns out to be a Person.
Listen to Jesus's invitation with Jeremiah still ringing in your ears: Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest… and you will find rest for your souls. That last phrase is not an echo by accident. Jesus is quoting Jeremiah 6:16 — the crossroads verse, the ancient path verse — and placing Himself at the end of the road. The rest Jeremiah pointed toward now has a face and a name. Ask for the ancient paths, the prophet said, and you will find rest for your souls. Come to me, says Jesus, and you will find rest for your souls. The ancient path was always leading here.
And look who's invited: the weary and the burdened. Not the finished. Not the victorious. The tired. If this week ends with you carrying more than you meant to — worries you re-shouldered after setting them down, prayers that felt like they bounced — then you are precisely the person this invitation was written for.
So end the week the way it began: standing still. But this time, you know where the road leads. Bring Him the whole heavy week. He is not tired of you. He has been waiting at the end of the ancient path all along.
Come.

Closing prayer
Lord Jesus, I come — weary, burdened, and carrying a week's worth of weight. You are the rest Jeremiah promised and the end of the ancient path. Take what I've been shouldering, and teach my soul to rest in You. Amen.
