Stand at the Crossroads

Read it for me

Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.

Jeremiah 6:16

Every morning hands you a crossroads. Before the first email, before the news, before the day starts making its demands, you are already standing at an intersection — and the world is very loud about which way you ought to go. Newer. Faster. Further.

God's counsel through Jeremiah is almost embarrassingly simple: stand, look, ask, walk. Four small verbs. Notice that the first three aren't movement at all. Before you walk anywhere, you stand still. You look — actually look — at where the roads lead. And you ask. Not for a new road. For the ancient one.

That word matters. The good way is not waiting to be invented, and it isn't hiding. It has been walked for thousands of years by ordinary people who found that it held their weight — through grief, through plenty, through seasons when they couldn't feel God at all. The path is worn smooth because the faithful have walked it before you. You are not the trailblazer here. You are the inheritor.

And look at the promise stitched to the end of the verse: you will find rest for your souls. Not rest for your schedule — Jeremiah makes no promises about your calendar. Rest for your soul: the part of you that stays tired even after a full night's sleep.

This week, we're going to walk that path together, one morning at a time. Today, just do the first thing. Stand. Look. Ask.

The walking will come.

Closing prayer

Father, before this day asks anything of me, I stand at the crossroads and ask You for the ancient path. Show me the good way, give me the courage to walk in it, and let my soul find the rest You promised. Amen.
